Mushrooms & Zoanthids

Mushrooms & Zoanthids

Mushrooms and zoanthids are among the easiest of corals to keep and make excellent additions to a reef aquarium for both novice and expert aquarists. The majority of these corals tolerate a wide range of tank parameters but most will do best under low to moderate light and indirect to moderate water flow conditions. Once acclimated, mushrooms and zoanthids can be fast growers and may develop into extensive colonies. These corals will be healthiest with low nitrate levels, 8-11dKH, 8.2-8.4pH, and 350-450ppm calcium. Larger individuals are able to feed aggressively and will do well with the occasional addition of finely chopped seafoods. Some of the more familiar zoanthid and mushroom genera include: Zoanthus, Parazoanthus, Palythoa, Ricordea, Discosoma, Rhodactis, and Amplexidiscus.

All zoanthids & mushrooms are “What You See Is What You Get.” Photos are taken under a combination of T5s unless otherwise noted. The color of any coral may vary under different lighting arrangements.
