LPS

LPS

Large Polyp Stony corals tend to be easier to keep than their smaller-polyped relatives. The majority of LPS will thrive under moderate light and modest water flow conditions, though certain species may have more stringent requirements. Good water quality is essential to long term success, and most will be their healthiest with low/zero nitrate levels, 8-11dKH, and 400-450ppm calcium. LPS are designed for capturing small prey items, and will grow fastest and look their best if offered finely chopped meaty seafood on occasion. Some of the more familiar LPS genera include: Favia, Euphyllia, Acanthastrea, Lobophyllia, Fungia, Blastomussa, “Chalice,” and Trachyphyllia.

All LPS are “What You See Is What You Get.” Photos are taken under 14,000 or 20,000K halides unless otherwise noted. The color of any coral may vary under different lighting arrangements.
