Acclimation Guide

To ensure the safest transition for your new animals, please use the follow acclimation procedure to introduce your fish/coral to their new tank.

Step One: Float the closed bag in tank or sump for 20 minutes. This will allow water temperature in bag to equal water temperature in your tank. Make sure your aquarium lights are off during acclimation.

Step Two: Carefully insert the contents of the bag into a clean water container. Make sure that your container is small enough so that your specimen will be completely covered with water from bag.

Step Three: Run a small tube (aquarium air line is perfect) from the aquarium to the acclimation bucket, and suck on the end of it to start a siphon.  Tie a loose knot in the bucket-end of the tube in order to control the water flow.  Try to get the water down to 3 drips per second by slowly tightening the knot in the tube. *Note- if using an acclimation kit from our site (as seen below), roll the ball on the yellow hose clamp down until you achieve the 3 drip per second rate, rather than tying a knot in the line.*  Allow this to run until you have tripled the original water volume in the acclimation container; this should ideally take about an hour.

Step Four: Carefully move your new animal to the aquarium with a net or by hand.  Do not add water from the acclimation container to your tank. This is always a good practice to avoid unwanted contamination. For corals placement is very important. Start your new coral low in the tank and in an area of medium current.  This is allowing it to acclimate to your specific lighting.  After three to four days you may place your new animal in its final location. Make sure to research the proper environment for your new animal before purchase.
